This is my middle son and my camera shy child. I told him we were going out to take pictures of him and his favorite thing, skateboarding. He was glowing! Not only did he let me take an entire sessions worth of images, but he got creative and had his own ideas as well. This may be a great way to get your camera shy munchkin in some fun photos. And if you kid is not shy, but just super cool. We can still have fun doing something a little more creative.

Sneak Peek of a fun wedding from early March. It was held at the Kenmore Inn in Fredericksburg, Va. A fabulous location and even better clients. They had a lively and fun crowd and danced the night away. I wish them the best in their future together!

This session struck a chord with me. This handsome man has been serving our country over seas for the last 3 years. He has missed nearly half of his sons life. Growing up military I totally felt how excited this little guy was to have his dad back. Although my father was never gone for 3 whole years, 6 months was plenty. I had a blast watching them interact, and get to know each other all over again. Not to mention that they are both handsome :).

We have many men and women sacrificing more than you could ever imagine for us. Unless you are a military family yourself you will never quite understand the magnitude of it all. We all may not understand or agree with the War we are involved in, but we need to honor, respect, and thank the men and women that have chosen to serve for our country.

18 days...then back over seas

This was such a fun session. He is in the Army and has spent some time serving for us over seas. During his short leave of 18 days, I had the opportunity to capture some of their time together. I will always provide my artistically classic portrait images, but I also want to play, have fun and get creative with you and your families.

A little peek for the L. Family. This was such a sweet family and their eldest was so patient and let me put her into some interesting locations to get some gorgeous shots. She was sitting at the bottom f a Fig tree stuffed next to a large pine with stinky figs all over the ground. Never once fussed, and the images are turning out gorgeous.

This little guy started out a bit early (couple of months I believe). Here he is at 3 months and 9 lbs. That amazes me because my smallest was 8 lb 12 oz 3 weeks early. I was so happy that he slept the whole time and let me curl him up just like a newborn. And he gave me one of my most favorite session images yet..."Leaf". Thank you W.

Only 2 Sessions Left in October

Just a little note to all looking to get Fall pictures in. I have only 2 more dates available for the month of October. There are a few dates available for November, but as most of you know it can get a bit chilly.

*I will always make room for newborns due too the time sensitivity, please contact me if you are interested in a newborn session and I can give you an available schedule*

Currently I am working on a space in my home for winter mini-sessions. These sessions will not last as long as my normal on location sessions and will come at a reduced session rate (think about holiday cards). Speaking of holiday cards, I have many new templates coming out in the next week or so. These mini-session would be great to get a family photo for those Holiday Cards. If you have already had a session with me you can still order holiday cards. Deadline for holiday card orders is November 15th. Please contact me if you are interested in custom printed and designed holiday cards. Examples will be posted on the blog soon!

And since I must post a picture. This is my new favorite. Mom and the little guy were major troopers for this photo. More of him to come in a later post.

I have been "blog tagged" by two fellow photographers. Debbie Hobbs and Tasha. Basically I am supposed to tell you 8 things you may not know about me and tag 8 more photographer friends around the country. Some clean inter-blogging fun...and a way for all my blog watchers to get to know me a little better.

1- I LOVEEEE green. It is my favorite color in all shades. Why do I not use it for my color story? I tried it, but it was not soothing enough for all the avenues of photography I do. I also have a thing for stars. Some of you that know my Flickr screen-name, this is all starting to come together for you ;)

2- I knit, crochet, sew, build, paint (paintings, walls and murals). I still get commissioned to do murals here and there. I grew up very renaissance as far as we were taught to do everything craft, art and building. I got accepted to a private art school when I was in 2nd grade and have been art school through college.

3- I am a self taught photographer and photoshop user. I research a ton and learn a lot by trial and error. Photography is so wonderful, I couldn't imagine my life without it. My wonderful photog friends (some of the ones that tagged me) and I share a lot of info with each other across the country. Such a great way to learn.

4- I have a Fashion Design Degree. I studied Couture Evening and Bridal at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. I loved it and still do, but there is not much of that here in VA, so I found other creative avenues to play in. Project Runway ROCKS!!!

5- I have 3 kids....yikes! Daughter 8, son 4 (5 in a week or so) and son 6 months. They are the best munchkins ever, and are super patient with mommy and her photog business and with my other job. My hubby couldn't be more supportive either.

6- My other job. I work for my hubby almost full time, some weeks more than full time as a Patent Draftsman. I draw inventions all day on the computer. Very boring...but lucrative and I can do it from home, so I can raise my babies and be a photographer. I wouldn't change it (until I can get someone to replace me) so I can be full time Photog ;)

7- I am not afraid of much and will pick up snakes and lizards. I will also save baby wild animals. When my husband met me at 19 yo, I had 10 orphaned Opossums that I was hand feeding. I am amazed that he stuck with me through that. He says that I am a magnet for them. There is no way to count how many orphans I have found or have come to me over the years. I also have no fearS of height, and have a high tolerance for pain.

8- I stop for turtles. This kinda goes with 7 but it is one of my "things" that my hubby gives me a hard time about. I will literally go up the road, turn around and move the turtle to the side (in the direction he was going...obviously he had somewhere to be, why turn him backwards). My hubby stresses it because he doesn't like me being in the road. I told him my odds were way better than the turtle's :)

New Changes Coming at Bella Boutique

Look for Marta Locklear Photography to be featured in Bella Boutique in Central Park (near ULTA). I have been co-consulting with Bella about their new renovations and product lines coming in. In doing so we have concluded that it would be a great space for me to use has a central hub for my growing photography business.

Once the painting, new shelving, and dust settles, look for Marta Locklear Prints to be displayed throughout. Bella is also going to be my drop off and pick up location. This will make it easier for my clients to get their products sooner. Hopefully in the future you will be able to view my albums and various products I offer as well.

Bella has been a great source for silver jewelry, accessories and local jewelry artists. She will continue her popular lines, and be adding some baby, home, gift, children's and hopefully a very popular line of handbags...those updates will be coming soon. In the meantime, excuse her renovation mess, but stop by for some wonderful clearance sales!

I have to comment about this one. I was so focused on them, that I didn't even notice the "live..." written on the bench until I went through to proof.
